Things are crazy here as they are all for our friends. This summer has been weird. The rain, heat and trying to just get everything done. Mr. M is working 7 days at week right now. They are detassling and then he will roll right into harvest. And then we will have harvest here. Right now I am a corn widow. We spend a little time each night going over what got done, needs to be done and the schedule for the next day. I love the busy, but I feel like the world is passing me by. I spend more time with the show heifer in the barn rinsing, combing and blowing her than i spend on my own hair! But State Fair is coming up and Little Man can't do it alone. And we have some very interesting conversations. So at some point things will slow down and I will return to a normal routine of blogging. But for now I'll just drop a post now and then to let you know I'm still around. And I love reading all your blogs and seeing all the wonderful photos. Happy Tuesday to all of you!

Just One More..
While we were in Sedalia for the show I got to see one of my favorite families. The Allens. The are some of the nicest people. And Julie always has a smile on her face. She just makes you happy when you are around her. Anyway her son Clay picked out a puppy while there. Well momma said no and somehow I'm still not sure how, but that puppy is now living with us! Yes, we have another dog. And Mr. M really didn't say much this time. I think he's done arguing with me about the dogs. We all love each and everyone of them. And they all have a story of how they ended up a part of our family. So here she is Sedalia, aka Possum. She is half heeler/half aussie. And she is crazy about Duff. And the best part is that Duff leaves Hank alone and he can have an enjoyable retirement. Happy Thursday!

Simmental Jr. Nationals
We recently we to Sedalia, Missouri. It was for the Simmental Jr. Nationals. We had a great time. We spent eight days learning and showing for the breed that our son has chosen. Everyday there is a contest, quiz or judging to do. And after you do at least four of the six contests, you can show your calf. It was a good experience for our Little Man. He is somewhat of an introvert. So he had to go out and talk to people and do things that he normally doesn't do. I don't want to rush things, but it will be interesting to see how he is in a couple of years. And in December Little Miss will be showing and hopefully we can find her a good Simmental heifer too. We are slowly building a very nice base for what we believe to be a good Simmental herd. And I can't wait to see what the future holds for our family. Happy Wednesday!
Check-in: papers and tattoos are checked |
Then the hips are measured. No female should have her hip measured in public! |
Funny faces while waiting. Silly boy! |
Mentoring session. He was outnumbered by girls. |

Back to reality
Hello everyone! I'm sorry for my recent absence, but life is in full swing here. We had county fair, Simmental Jr. Nationals and now we are gearing up for State Fair. And trying to get all the stuff done in the middle. We have gotten straw baled, hay cut and all the cows are preg checked. Now we are setting up to day wean and then move the cows to a different pasture.
Many of you don't know this but we changed our farm name in December. So we have finally gotten everything switched over but the tags on the cows. We will do that when we run them through to vaccinate. We think we finally have a number system that will work for the different cow families to be identified. It's exciting the number of great heifers that we were able to hold back for calving this next spring. And the best part they are all A.I. babies.
Along with the fairs and daily chores of the farm, we are trying to do some fun family time. We are planning a trip back to Michigan for some beach fun. And I have a few little trips for the babes and I to do. And trying to fit it all in before school starts. Our babes head back on August 17th. That's always an adjustment. So I hope you all are having a great day. I photos to share from the show, our new family addition and just because photos.
