Fun Fair Times - Part 3

I hope I'm not boring you to death with my fair stories! This is finally the end..  And this is the best yet.  On Friday was the Beef Show and the wrapping up of the fair.  The Beef Show is fun.  Mr. M and the kids are in the barn taking care of the working end of the show.  I work the ring to help the kids and take pictures in between.  GOOD TIMES!  Well, Little Man ended the heifer show with Grand Champion Heifer!  He was so excited and I cried.  We have traveled and worked as a family with this heifer.  She is usually in the top 2 of the shows that she has been in.  If she doesn't win she is second.  And it's all good.  She is such a baby and they love showing together.  So here's a great photo for Little Man's wall.  Each of my kids gets a wall in our living room when they start showing.  And I hang photos from the shows up.  And one day they will take them to their home.  Anyway, here they are!

Happy Wednesday to everyone!

Fun Fair Times - Part 2

Soooo, the week before the fair all non-animal projects are due.  The first of these projects due for Little Man was his Safe Shooting poster board.  That was the day Nuggent(our bull) decided to be bad.  So after the bull delay we got the poster board there and Little Man got a blue.  The next poster board due was his Photography poster board.  He got  a blue on that also.  During the first day of the fair we went to the Root Building to look at all the projects.  And he got the recognition of "Best First Year Project" on his Photography.  Pretty exciting.  He did better than me on my open.  I got a 2nd.

Then this past Wednesday was the Cat Show, Baby Show, Rabbit Show and Fashion Revue.  I stayed home with the babes and let the sleep in that day.  On Thursday was the Dairy Show.  That's always interesting to watch because it's so different from the Beef Show.  Here are a few candids from the day.

On Friday was the Beef Show.  I will save that post for tomorrow! You might as well have the long drawn out version so you can get the full effect.  I hope all of you has a wonderful Tuesday!

Fun Fair times - Part 1

The fair was a lot of of fun. Little Man does 2 pigs, 2 lambs, a heifer, safe shooters and photography.  So each babe picks a lamb & pig.  Then they are responsible for its care and feeding.  Last Sunday, on Father's Day we had an open sheep show.  Here are a few pictures of those couple of  days.

Then on Monday we had the 4-H sheep show. Little Miss showed in the runt class.  Then Little Man showed both lambs, he had 3rd with his cross bred.  And 2nd, Reserve Champion Dorset.

Tuesday was the pig show.  Little Miss did the runt class with the blue butt gilt.  Then Little Man showed both gilts.  Little Man received 5th with his calico pig.  And then 2nd with his blue butt.

After the conclusion of the swine show, we always have our auction that evening.  We auction off the lambs, sheep and swine.  The kids get a premium check for the animals they auction off.  The community comes out and  supports the kids by bidding on the animals.  Next post will be the end of the fair.  Which includes the dairy and beef shows.  It's good to be back and we had a wonderful time at the fair. Happy Monday Everyone!

P.S.   this fair was bitter sweet for us.  it's Little Miss's last year as a runt.  this fall she will be in 4-H.  her first cattle show of the season is in December.  how time flies.  but she is super excited and already knows what kind of heifer she wants.

We have been missing for a few days because we are having our county fair! Sunday was and open sheep show.  Monday was the 4-H sheep show. Tuesday was the 4-H swine show.  Then Tuesday evening was the goat, sheep, swine and poultry auction.  So we have been spending our time between the fairgrounds and home.  I love taking the photos for the kids during the fair.  And talking to all the people from our county that we dont normally get to talk to or see.  So things should be back to normal sometime after Saturday.  I hope you all are having a great week.  I have been checking the blogger here and there to check on everyone.  Have a great week!..

Father's Day

Father's Day is Sunday.  I'm posting early because it's Friday and I will be spending the weekend with my people.  Mr. M is home for the weekend and it's his special weekend.  We are going to a sheep show and gearing up for the fair next week.  He is lucky enough due to all the rain we got that he will be able to be there for the 3 days our babes show.  Which is awesome for them and me.  I take pictures all week for the 4-hers and so we are there every day, all day.  And it's sooo much fun.
So in honor of the best husband and father I could have ever asked for: Happy Father's Day Mr. M! We love you and are blessed to be a part of your life.
Happy Father's Day to all the men out there.  Whether they are biological, uncles, cousins, mentors or just a special man in someones life.  Sunday is your day!

Bad, Bad Nuggent!

Today Nuggent (our simmy bull) was a VERY, VERY bad boy.  For whatever reason he decided that being in his lot was not good enough anymore.  Needless to say, he decided to do this when we were loading into the truck to take Little Man's Shooting Sports project in.  I always look out to the pasture to see where the cows are, and I see a large black body halfway down the lane to the back pasture on the wrong side of the fence.  And when I say the wrong side, I mean by not surrounded by hot high tinsel fence in the bean field.

So I hollered at Little Man to get the quad while I got a bucket of corn.  My SIL Melissa loaded the kids into the truck to keep them out of the bulls way.  And off G and I went.  We coaxed him him back towards the show barn, around it and in between the barns.  Then he made a small detour through the tool shed.  Then he went around the show barn to visit the pigs, lambs and show heifer.  At this point I was ticked.  Melissa was getting the gate to his lot undone.  And I grabbed a sorting pole and started moving him that way.  Well, Elmer decided to stroll out and eat the yard grass.  Finally, he was in.  We got Elmer in.  And fixed the gate Nuggent busted.  Then loaded into the truck and went to town. Little Man got a BLUE on his Shooting Sports Poster.  Then back home.

Well, Nuggent wasn't in his lot after about an hour of being home.  He ended up in the hay lot next to his lot and the cows lot he so desperately wanted in.  So once again off I went with a sorting pole to move him.

Well, we sheared the sheep again or an open show on Sunday and 4-H show on Tuesday.  And I went out to see what the cows were doing and just walk around.  And once again he was in the wrong lot.  So Mr. M had enough of me threatening to kill him.  And he turned him out with the cows.  Needless to say I'm exhausted from chasing him and he's happy to be back with all his girls!  I hope tomorrow is a better day for him and me and he isn't too mad at me for chasing him with a sorting pole and calling him VERY unladylike names.  Happy Thursday!

And it has begun!

Yesterday projects for our county fair started going in and being judged for our fair next week.  Today was the first day that we had one due.  It was Photography.  Little Man decided to have a go at it.  Maybe it's seeing me point a camera at everything, maybe it's the fact that he tries to grab my camera and try it out here and there.  But I was excited that he wanted to give it a whirl.  So we went out and he took some photos of different things, at different angles and in different light.  And I tucked my hands in my pockets and bit my tongue and let him do what he wanted and how he wanted.  And I have to confess, it was sooo hard. But I did it. And then he chose which 10 he wanted to use.  And a good friend came over and gave him some awesome tips on how to do his poster board.  So when Mr. M got home today we loaded up and went to the fairgrounds.  He was called up.  Spoke with the judge and she looked at all of his pictures.  She asked a few questions.  Then he walked back to us with a cheesy grin.  He got a BLUE!  Not too bad for his first time around.  He liked it enough he wants to try it again next year.  And Little Miss too!  She will be a first year 4-Her.  So maybe for Christmas we can get them point and shoots of their own.  Because I can't have them both wanting to borrow my camera.  I would feel empty without it.  So here are the 10 he chose.
